Bolivia is an amazingly diverse country in every sense of the word. Landlocked and located in the center of South America, its culture draws from, and has been influenced by its neighbors on all sides. Its history has been shaped by colorful conditions (the colors of its flags reflect these), and its government and economy are continuously undergoing transitions that perpetuate this ever-changing landscape. Geographically, although the country itself has been widely mapped, some of its deeper, more impenetrable regions remain shrouded in mystery. Its population is small relative to its size and concentrated in three major urban areas - the cities of Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and La Paz while the rest of the country is sparsely populated. Much of its great wealth of natural resources remains untouched, and Bolivia has one of the highest rates of biodiversity in the world.
