Classified under the french ‘City and Land of Art and History’ label (‘ville et pays d’art et d’histoire’), Poitiers presents a prestigious architectural heritage with over 80 monuments scheduled as buildings of historical interest. Visiting Poitiers means discovering a regional capital marked by over 2000 years of history. Surrounded by both the Clain and the Boivre rivers, the town lends itself to walks through its pedestrian streets and discovery trails. One of the first university towns in Europe (1431), it today shelters more than 25000 students (over 25 % of the city population) who participate enthousiastically to an energetic network of associations, encouraging a creative and diversified cultural life. Near the Atlantic coast and the Marais Poitevin, Poitiers is a first rank city for tourism : nature is especially present in the very heart of its urban grid. As a welcoming, flowery town, Poitiers is harmoniously developing its city center by betting on ambitious projects which, nevertheless, remain on a human scale : a regional Theater and auditorium, a new business complex, and the continuous enhancement of its urban space. The proximity of Futuroscope park, of the nautical base of Saint-Cyr, but also its aquatic center and its golf course make it a favoured destination. Weniger
