From its beginnings as a royal fortress to the public institution we see today, discover the Musée du Louvre: its role, its aims, and the expertise of the people who make it work. The Musée du Louvre houses 35,000 works of art drawn from eight departments, displayed in over 60,000 square meters of exhibition space dedicated to the permanent collections. Each season, the Louvre features a series of temporary exhibitions, each the result of the latest expert research. Some of these shows are more suitable for the general public, but in their conception they act as echoes, versions and counterpoints to the museum's collections. Meno

Must go!

The Musée du Louvre is hands down the most wonderful museum you will ever go to. IT IS HUMONGOUS and filed with exquisite pieces of art. Do not expect to see it all unless you spend 1 full week (if not more!) dutifully visiting each wing. Imagine a U shaped museum that is at least 4 blocks long on each branch. Not only is the art magnificent but the building itself will make your jaw drop. I suggest getting the Carte Jeune if you are under 25 and expect to go more than once in a year. It is only 15 euros. There is another carte for those under 30 that is only 25 euros for the year. You can buy this at the card office across from the starbucks (not the one across from the cafeteria). Also to beat the security lines enter via metro or enter next to the Arche (there are stairs to the left going down, when facing the Louvre).

Must go!
